  23. I imagine that at next year's NAB, most all the companies will be showing 
  24. camera-mounted drive packages. It only makes sense, after all. The point 
  25. of NL editing is to make the editors job faster and easier. 
  26. Direct-to-disk recording eliminates a GREAT deal of time. The Ikegami
  27. recorder had a really neat feature that would come in handy for an 
  28. even-oriented videographer, such as a newsman.

  30. Let's say you were waiting for the President to come out on the balcony 
  31. and make a statement. Since you don't know exactly WHEN he's gonna do 
  32. that, you'd leave your camera running, to be sure and get it. With a 
  33. direct-to-disk setup, your hard drive would fill up quickly if you just 
  34. left it running.

  36. With the Ikegami setup, you flipped a switch, and it would continuously
  37. record over the same couple of tracks on the drive, over and over. When
  38. what you wanted to save happened, you flipped the switch back again, and
  39. the recorder would then just continue with normal recording.
